Blazing Arrow is the second full-length album by Blackalicious, the follow-up to 2000′s Nia. It was released on April 30, 2002 on MCA Records.

The album was generally received well by critics, with Allmusic writer Steve Huey praising Gift of Gab’s performance:

“In spite of the duo’s intellectual bent, the grooves on Blazing Arrow exude a tremendous warmth that’s only complemented by the positivity of their messages. And if Gift of Gab wasn’t recognized among hip-hop’s premier lyricists before, he certainly ought to be now; his raps are jam-packed with internal rhymes, allusions, metaphors, ten-cent words, and amazing tongue-twisting feats of skill.”

Pitchfork Media was also impressed with the album:

“He and Xcel have the stage, and all they want to do is share it. It’s as if the scope of this album– the stylistic diversity, the guest artists, the sincere, ecstatic rhymes– doesn’t come from ambition or creativity for its own sake, but out of a need to include everyone they know and everything they see around them. Not since Car Wash has there been such a celebration of diversity and hot fun in the summertime.”

The Craft is the third full-length album by hip hop duo Blackalicious, released on ANTI- on September 27, 2005. The group worked with Grammy Award-winning engineer Russell Elevado who previous work includes D’Angelo’s Voodoo, Alicia Key’s Songs In A Minor, Erykah Badu’s Mama’s Gun. Chief Xcel went on to describe him as Blackalicious’ third member. Xcel explained his thoughts on the album:”The Craft is our passion to bring discipline to this music, the passion to keep growing, keep stretching, keep doing things we haven’t before. The craft is what we live for.”

Initial critical response to The Craft was positive. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has received an average score of 80, based on 22 reviews.

The album was solely produced by Chief Xcel. It contains much more live instrumentation than on previous Blackalicious albums. Prefix Magazine described the production: “Xcel’s production doesn’t stray very far from its R&B and soul influences, but this time it comes without almost any samples, relying sometimes on players from a homebrewed funk band to create clearance-free beats instead.“
On their first ever DVD, Gift of Gab and Chief Xcel, alongside their incomparable supporting cast, deliver a legendary performance sure to go down in hip hop history. Joining them as part of this 45-day tour was Lateef, Pigeon John, LifeSavas and Fat Lip of the Pharcyde. Not only does the mind-blowing energy in the Seattle smoke-filled room translate onto this DVD, but the HDV shoot and superb pro-audio mix are sure to satisfy.

This concert release captures Bay Area hip-hop outfit Blackalicious performing live at Seattle’s Showbox Theater in 2006. Known for their conscious rhymes and groove-oriented vibe reminiscent of Native Tongues acts like Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul, Blackalicious remained among the smartest and most capable hip-hop crews of the early 2000s. This concert set features some of their best tunes highlighted by dynamic performances and guest stars that include Lateef and Pigeon John.
